Clik here to view.We can sit around all day talking about feminism, sexism and biases against women in our society, especially when it comes to “women of a certain age.” There’s always plenty of fodder — Hillary Clinton Nutcrackers, female senators being told by their male counterparts that they’re a little too chubby or getting a little too skinny, or whether successful women should hold back a little ambition at the risk of losing a prospective husband.
To be more blunt, what seems to be valuable to many men about women across a spectrum of professions is a certain … something.
The signs aren’t so subtle — women news anchors have been ditching those respectable blazers for short, sleeveless dresses that show a lot of leg at the anchor desk, the endless list of successful women who feel the need for plastic surgery, and toy companies that send subtle signals that girls should start worrying about their looks, rather than skills, even before puberty sets in.
Let’s be honest. We can be as earnest as we want and pound our fists on the table all day long, and never get the menfolk to understand that we know exactly what’s going on and we’re ready to call them on it. Sadly, that approach gets little attention and even less of a result. But nothing gets a hard message across more effectively than comedy.
Especially when it’s Amy Schumer’s brand! (FYI … this video is NOT safe for work!):
Maybe this will be a good conversation starter?
